Throughout the month of June, Canadians celebrate National Indigenous History Month. This is a time to honour the Indigenous Peoples across Canada who have lived on this land since time immemorial, and to celebrate their rich culture and history.
It is also a time to recognize their strength, achievements, and resiliency. Colonialism and the residential school system left a painful history in their community. Together we acknowledge that there is still much to be done towards reparations and reconciliation.
This month, we also celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day on June 21. This date was chosen as it represents the summer solstice and is the longest day of the year. On this date, the Indigenous community gathers to celebrate their heritage and culture.
This June and beyond, we honour the Canadian Indigenous community and take the opportunity to learn more about their history, culture, and ways of life. The LESA team wishes the Indigenous community a happy Indigenous History Month!

Understanding the relationship between Indigenous legal traditions and Canadian-made law is important for legal professionals across all practice areas. LESA is pleased to offer a complimentary webinar on June 18 titled, “Braiding Legal Traditions: Indigenous Laws and the Courts” because we believe everyone in the legal community should have access to this important topic. This webinar broadcasts live on June 18 at 11 am.
