KB Update: Notification of Language Rights in Criminal Cases

Effective June 19, 2026, a trial date will be set in the Court of King’s Bench only after the accused completes the Acknowledgement of Language Rights by the Accused new joint form. For those with a previously scheduled court date, the form must be completed by the accused at least 60 days prior to the first day of their scheduled trial. Alternatively, the accused may appear in Criminal Appearance Court to address the matter. Without completion of the form or appearance in court, the accused is required to personally attend a pre-trial conference with a judge to ensure they are informed of their language rights. Electronic signing of the form is permitted. Details can be found on the court’s website here.
