A Practical Resource for Employment Law Practice
The Alberta Employment Law Practice Manual is developed with practitioners in mind. It provides comprehensive information and practical tools, precedents, and checklists about fundamental employment law topics across the lifecycle of an employment file. With chapters covering employment contracts, dismissal with and without cause, constructive dismissal, human rights in the workplace, privacy in the workplace, workplace issues (such as workplace investigations, WCB, intellectual property, and immigration) and more, this manual offers practical guidance that lawyers can use in their day-to-day work.
The manual concludes with a chapter on ethical file management that you won’t want to miss. It walks you through the lifecycle of an employment file, outlining considerations from both the employee and the employer counsel perspective, highlighting common pitfalls as well as specific actions and processes that you can implement from client intake and early strategy development to evidence gathering, case building, and communications through to the various case conclusion pathways of negotiation, settlement, litigation, or administrative processes and finally to post-matter obligations.
