Law Office Security

SKU: 61954.02

This series of papers looks at issues involved in law office security for the small and solo law office.  The first paper discusses issues like the use of passwords and other methods of protecting one’s data. It also comments on the utility of various protective software, backing up one’s system and other security-related measures. Attached is a computer/network security checklist prepared by Jocelyn Frazer of the Law Society of Alberta.
The second paper discusses certain threats to law office computer security that cannot be managed by hardware and software protection. In particular, the author discusses the dangers of Ransomware, cloud computing and its inherent ethical considerations, and social media and authorized use policies.
This paper is part of a collection presented at LESA’s Law and Practice Update program in November, 2014.
