When a farmer, rancher, or other rural landowner is approached by an oil and gas operator seeking access to their land, the compensation question is rarely straightforward. This webinar provides a practical, compensation-focused overview of the Surface Rights Act as it applies to rights of way, right of entry orders, and negotiated surface leases in Alberta. We will work through the heads of compensation available to landowners, discuss how compensation is assessed and negotiated in practice, and highlight common issues that arise when negotiating directly with oil and gas companies. Attendees will leave with practical guidance on identifying and advocating for fair and reasonable compensation on behalf of their clients.
