First established in Canada in 2019, Sikh Heritage Month is celebrated in April. April was chosen to honour the Sikh community because it is when Vaisakhi (sometimes called Baisakhi) is observed – a time to commemorate the creation of the Khalsa and articles of the Sikh faith. This year, Vaisakhi will be celebrated on Monday, April 14.
This month provides us with an opportunity to work toward a better and more inclusive Canada, through celebrating and educating ourselves and future generations on the past and present contributions of the Canadian Sikh community. The LESA team wishes a warm and happy Sikh Heritage Month and Vaisakhi to the Sikh community!
