With the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, the courts have experienced increasing delays. Counsel, and more importantly, their clients, are becoming more and more impatient with respect to resolving litigation regardless of whether Plaintiff or Defendant. While settlement always remains an option, and is encouraged, there are mechanisms under the Alberta Rules of Court which allow for summary disposition when the circumstances are appropriate.
Review the Rules that can result in summary disposition of a claim, or aspects of it, and explore practical considerations which may be of use to legal counsel when considering the Rules. This program will be of particular interest to litigation lawyers in their first five years of practice, or for those who wish to revisit the basics.
