Alberta Courts Update: Expansion of the King’s Bench Filing Digital Service (FDS) in Edmonton

Effective July 17, 2023, the courts have launched a pilot program as part of the expansion of the existing Civil King’s Bench Filing Digital Service (FDS) to include Civil Justice Chambers in Edmonton.

The pilot will introduce filings for Civil Justice Chambers in Edmonton for hearings scheduled on or after August 1, 2023. It will allow lawyers to submit an Application for Civil Justice Chambers, supporting materials, and the mandatory proposed form of Order. Reply materials are also accepted. All materials will be delivered digitally to the Justice. Orders will be digitally signed by the Justice and made available to counsel through the digital service.

Counsel is strongly encouraged to utilize the King’s Bench Filing Digital Service for accepted document types. At this stage in the pilot, the submission process for adjournments, restoring matters to the list, and ex-parte applications will remain unchanged.
