Lawyers in parenting cases have an obligation to assist their clients in finding resolutions that are in the best interests of children and to help assist the family have a problem-free transition to two-household parenting. When lawyers work with their clients to actively resolve parenting problems, parties can often sort out a parenting plan that fits the needs of their individual families, in both the short and longer term. This paper explores parenting problems, discusses strategies to resolve them, and delves into lawyers’ roles and ethical duties in the process.
