Updates in the Alberta Courts – Renaming Alberta’s Provincial Court

On October 3, 2022, the Alberta government announced that the Provincial Court of Alberta would be renamed to the Alberta Court of Justice.

This change was made to reflect the court’s fundamental role in administering justice and was requested to better describe the relationship between Albertans and the justice they seek from the courts. The renaming of Alberta’s provincial court is effective April 1, 2023 and will be implemented as part of the renaming process to the Court of King’s Bench of Alberta.[1]
