Advance Care Planning – Educational Opportunity

acp-crio-logo-for-website_0Do you practice in wills & estates? Do you want to know more about Advance Care Planning (ACP)? ACP is a process of reflection on and communication of a person’s future healthcare preferences to guide medical decision making in the event of incapacity. It includes choosing and documenting a substitute decision maker and preferences for healthcare in a Personal Directive and Goals of Care Designation.

Lawyers play a key role in ACP by providing services such as preparing wills and appointing financial and health care decision makers, and clients routinely want advice about their advance care planning. Do you know have the tools to address their needs effectively and comprehensively?

ACP CRIO is an Alberta Innovates Health Solutions funded team of researchers and stakeholders working together and studying how to optimally implement widespread uptake of a formalized ACP framework. As such, ACP CRIO has been collaborating with the legal and medical communities for the past year.

Part of this collaboration includes an upcoming session that all lawyers involved in advance planning are invited to attend. This session will discuss lawyers’ roles, needs, barriers, and resources regarding ACP.

Session panelists – Jessica Simon, Nola Ries, and Shelley Waite – will share their experiences and insights from their practices and research in order to help identify ACP challenges and propose solutions and resources to help you in your own practice.

You can join them live in Red Deer on September 24 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM or you can connect remotely via webinar or teleconference.

For more information, check out this ACP CRIO event information sheet.

In person attendance is limited, so make sure to reserve your spot early so that you won’t miss this exciting opportunity to expand your knowledge and resource set while collaborating with the medical community on an area of common interest.
