There are five major types of intellectual property in Canada: patents, trademarks, copyright, trade secrets, and industrial designs. This paper addresses how these types of intellectual property differ in terms of subject matter, registration requirements, rights provided, and other terms and characteristics. It also discusses the acquisition of intellectual property and enforcement.
