The Municipal Government Act establishes special mechanisms and processes to assist municipalities with collecting tax arrears related to land and improvements. This paper explores such processes. It also provides an overview of the special liens created in favour of municipalities with respect to property tax arrears, and how those affect priorities as between municipalities and other secured creditors.
