    Family law lawyers face unique challenges helping clients navigate stressful and emotional life events. Learn the processes, forms, and techniques used by seasoned family law practitioners in these presentations. This program also includes a comprehensive review of case law on the criteria for a legally enforceable separation agreement, including a discussion of the Supreme Court of Canada’s decision in Anderson v Anderson, 2023 SCC 13, along with a discussion on best practices for drafting separation agreements and streamlining litigation options if no agreement is reached. These on-demand programs were originally presented on March 7, 2024. The total running time for each presentation ranges between 58 minutes and 1 hour, 13 minutes.

  • Setting Down the Pen: Using Technology in the Boardroom

    This paper explains how technology can be used in settlement conferences to enhance and improve the way that the settlement conference is delivered to the clients. Technology in the boardroom not only helps lawyers prepare for meetings, but assists clients in following the progress of their matter from start to finish. Sample minutes are included. This paper was presented at the 46th Annual Family Law Refresher in April of 2013.  
  • Divorce and the Pre-Nuptial “What-If”

    This paper discusses practical issues regarding divorce and pre-nuptial planning particular to farming families. Topics include issues related to unmarried parties, including unjust enrichment, the farm as matrimonial property, using experts for farm valuation, property agreements, and creative settlement options. This paper was presented at the Family Farm Issues program in May 2014.
